Com225 at rio salado

Has anyone taken com225 (public speaking) through Rio? I know how weird it sounds to do public speaking through an online course but it's the only one that I can fit into my schedule and be done with before fall semester (I need it done before fall so I can apply to the CEP in May). Anyways, I know you do the speeches via uploaded video, just wondering if anyone else has done it through rio and what it was like.

Just thought I'd update for anyone that is curious for the future.

Some of the speeches you have to record require an audience of 3 people. You place the camera behind them so that you are talking to them and the camera and so they are visible for the whole speech. Some of the other speeches like video journals don't require an audience so you are just recording yourself.

So far so good, I'm really enjoying some of the videos we have been required to watch for the lessons.

Thank you for this info on online COM225. I also have to take this class online.

What program did you use to record your speeches?

How's nursing school going?

I used the camera on my laptop to record and then uploaded it from there. No special program needed.

I'm starting nursing school in January. Good luck in class!

How did you do in COM225? To be honest, I am very intimidated with the recorded speeches. I took small group communicaton but my nursing school requires COM225.

Do you recall if you took the 8 week online class or 16 wks? Do you remember how many recorded speeches the class required?

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated!

I got an A in the class and I opted for the 8 week course option. There was probably 6 speeches or so that required an audience...some of those speeches were the same thing but we were working on introduction only, rough drafts, and then all the way up to the final presentation of it. We got to pick which kind of speech that was (informative, persuasive) and then there were two smaller speeches we had to do one informative and one persuasive.

I was very nervous about doing a persuasive one but it's not necessarily what you typically think of once you read the chapter on persuasive speeches. I did mine as a "call to action" for supporting a charity I'm familiar with.

There are video journals you have to do every week that don't require an audience. We had to watch Ted talks and then relate back to our material in correlation with the talk for our video journal. There were also chapter quizzes.

I wouldn't stress too much about it, just work ahead and look at all the lessons so you can start planning your big speech topic and that will help a lot.
