CNA Testing after block 1

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hello Everyone!! I have a quick question. I am currently going into Block 3 of the nursing program and I work @ Banner. Banner has a new policy going into effect at the end of this year that requires all their techs to be certified. I won't sit for the NCLEX until early next year, so I am being told I have to take the CNA test so that I don't lose my job.

Now, I know after block 1 we were told that as long as we had the documents signed and our transcripts sent to the AZ board that we could test. I was just wondering if anyone had actually done it. What was the process like? How long did it take? When you sat for the test was it just the written or the skills test as well?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA!!!!

Make bed,

How many pillow for said patient

remember the call button

proper hand washing

...the basics. Been there done that.

Boredom and the anxiety that goes with it is not even worth the bother.

You will do fine.

Just brush up on your skills.

Funny thing is that said institute doesn't even follow the skills or principals taught and tested on.

There are no such things as 45s in the hospital. LOL

Contact the director and ask for the CNA waiver and they should fill it out no problem.

Send it in to the board and you should be able to test no issues. It make take a few weeks and then you set up an appointment.

You will need to test for both skills and written unless being in nursing schools gives you a chance to waive either. I don't see why they would tho.

However, you can download a book from the board of nursing for the CNA test. Or google. Lol

And brush up on the main objectives. Safety, privacy, sanitary, and CNA role/duties. And the skills they randomly choose to test you on. I think it's 5.

Hope that helps.

Good luck. It's not hard at all, just more of the pressure you put on yourself. And in block 3, you will nail the basics! Go for it!

I did this after block 1.

1) go to the AZBN website and print off the CNA examination application and CBA education waiver.

2) contact the administrator of your nursing program and let them know what you are doing. They will either already have signed copies of the education waiver or will know who you need to get in touch with to get it signed.

3) take that signed waiver to the admissions office at the school and have them fax it to the AZBN with your transcripts.

4) go to the board office and get a fingerprint card. They will give you a fingerprint card that you take and get printed. There is one down the street from the board office that costs like $15.

5) bring the sealed fingerprint envelope back to the board office. They charge to run fingerprints before passing the CNA exam so you can do this before or after you test.

6) go to the headmaster site, the link will be in the CNA application, and print out the headmaster CNA exam application and fee schedule. Mail it in with payment for the written and skills tests( you will have to take both)

7) after a couple weeks you will get notification of permission to test and your test date. This can be changed in the headmaster website

8) after you pass the tests bring your complete CNA application into the AZBN office. It takes them a couple weeks to process everything and post your certification. If you chose to wait until after the test to do your fingerprints (you save money this way), then it will be up to 6 weeks waiting for fingerprints to process. Mine took 5 weeks.

Good luck

Thanks so much!! I already have a fingerprint card, do I have to do another one?

I can't wait to get this out of the way. My hope is to do it after block 3 during the summer. Thanks again!!

Yes you need to redo your fingerprints. It's not for a fingerprint clearance card. It's for the BON background check.

If you are going to do it after block 3, it probably won't be worth it unless you're taking time off your program. It takes about 2-3 weeks to get approval for the CNA exam and then to schedule a test date with headmaster. Then after you pass it takes about 3 days to get results and a few days after that for the BON to update your verification page. Then it takes about 4-6 weeks for your fingerprint/background check to process and your cert number to post. Basically you're looking at about 2+ months to get the cert if you pass the first time. Since you will probably already be in block 4 by then, many facilities won't hire you with a graduation date so close because of the cost of training you.

Im not saying you can't do, but to be worth it, you should be doing right after block 1.
