CNA to ASN??

So, I am currently working as a CNA in a LTC facility during the evening shift on a full-time basis. I recently applied to the nursing program at my local community college (mainly because I am unable to receive anymore federal student financial aid and partially because I thought they may have a more flexible schedule than the local university would). I am wondering if anyone here is or has worked as a CNA while trying to go for their nursing degree. Is it something you would recommend to someone who works evening shift (3-11) or do you think it is just not feasible while working full time as a CNA? I have wanted to be a nurse for most of my life and want it so bad...someone help please!

    Lots of nurses were CNAs first, although I can't claim to be one of them. How much you can work during school depends on your ability and your other commitments. I found working six hours a week trying, but other worked 40+ hours with very little difficulty. What shifts you can work will also vary based on your comfort and the program's requirements.

    Even though I was never certified as a CNA, I did work full-time as an LVN while completing my ASN degree. So, yes, it is possible to work full-time while attending nursing school.

    I currently work full-time as a CNA in LTC, too. I work the 2pm-10pm shift and so far it has worked marvelously for my school schedule. It can make for some seriously long days, especially if you have 8am or 9am classes, but it is possible. I'm at the point in my pre-reqs that I only have so many left that I'm left with no other option but to register for classes that get out at 2:30 or 3:00, but my work has been super flexible and hasn't had a problem with me coming in an hour late as long as I give them my schedule ahead of time. You'll usually find that healthcare facilities are generally proactive in getting their employees through school. My DNS came up to me the other day when I showed up a little after 3pm and said I'll have to work for them as a LPN or RN when I finish school. :)
