I am going to start as a graduate nurse on a med/surg unit.
I was just wondering which works better during a shift: putting your notes on a clipboard that you carry around, or a spiral notepad to jot notes that you put in your pocket?
Any suggestions?
Thanks! :)

It all depends on the individual. When i first started i used a clipboard simply because i could jot down policy things that i didnt really remember off the top of my head and the clipboard kept them close for reference.
Anymore i dont carry the clipboard it is cumbersome and is easier to just use printed sheets from the work unit that has all ordered details on it already, i can jot down anything new for shift report somewhere on the page, etc and staple them together so i dont lose any. It can be folded up and stuck in a pocket.
It's all personal preference.

I recently abandoned my habit of using a clipboard. It's been great! I rarely misplace my folded up pt worksheet, I can easily use the back of it for extra notes, I always have it handy in my pocket with hands free. I love it!
One of my co-workers saw how happy I was and also abandoned her clipboard. She hasn't turned back and is pleased as can be!
