I finished my OB/Peds rotation this past spring, as with

every clinical just being prepared and organized will help a great

deal.

For peds patients, make sure you know the norms for vital signs, therapuetic communication, and I would possibly review age development, that way you have a heads up on each age group.

For OB, stages of labor, norms/abnormals, we did a tremendous amount of teaching for this clinical rotation also. So I reviewed baby care to include cord care, circ care, and the basics for those that may not know...bathing, feeding, and a lot of breast feeding teaching. Also for the moms, involution, s/s of infection.

I am sure if I am missing anything you'll get more input from others that post:)

I enjoyed OB, but wouldnt want to do it forever..LOL

Actually, Channa hit the nail on the head, and i dont have too much more to add.

more for OB, read up on Placenta Previa, and Placenta Abruptio, HELLP syndrome, pre/eclampsia, warning signs, and medications to be given during the episodes. DIC is fascinating, as well as Amniotic Fluid embolism.

For peds... I cant help you much there, I HATED that clinical (im not a kids-type person. but yes, review the developmental milestones (Denver II tests). That should help.
