Hello everyone! I'm new to the forums. I'm currently in my pre-nursing stage. I applied for CSI's nursing program for Fall 08, but sadly I didn't get in. I'm now considering transferring into City Tech in Brooklyn. My GPA isn't great , and so isn't my NLN scores. The nursing department at CSI is hectic, I mean their staff BITE when you talk to them:argue:, but I heard that in City Tech they have nice staff and are willing to work with you. But I'm just curious what I should do next? Any advice from the nurses out their? Next semester I'm really going study form my NLNs. Thanks in advance! Take care!

I would take more classes (co reqs) to bring up your GPA and retake the NLN ..a lot of people dont get in on the first try ..It took me 3 tries, on the 3rd attempt I applied to 5 schools and got into 4 of them! So theres hope, but if I had to guess I would say maybe 75% of people dont get in on the first attempt
Natingale thanks so much for the advice! I feel better after reading that comment. I certainly will not give up! I want to get into the pediactrics unit when I become a nurse. Thanks again and take care!

I am not sure what my cousin GPA was, but she got into city tech on her first try as a transfer sudent, she swares it is the best nursing program in brooklyn, if you dont want to get drowned in debt. And what about kingsorough they do not have a waiting list they go by your GPA and the NLN score. Or I beleive Laguardia goes strictly by GPA but you have to have a 3.8 or better. Good Luck

i just graduated from city tech, you have to have an okay gpa nothing below 3.3 i got in with a 3.4 and i got a 117 on my nln. i have to tell you the program is not easy but at the end its worth it so i suggest for you to retake one or two of the classes and try to get a better grade and do really well on the NLN. i wish you the best of luck!

I'm a second semester nursing student at City Tech. I got in with a 3.9 GPA, but I think they consider anything above a 3.3.
I would advice you to retake some of the classes, preferably the easiest ones like english and psycholgy, so you have a bigger chance to bring your GPA up. Make sure you take these classes at City Tech, because they give priority to people who completed their prereqs there.
Another thing is....Get used to studying! lol I mean, bringing your GPA up and getting in is great, but that's just the beginning of the road. A lot of people get in and faill their nursing classes twice, so they get kicked out of the program. I busted my butt to get in with all As and now I struggle to get Bs. It's continuous hard work, but it's worth it! The staff is great, I'm happy at City Tech.
Good luck.
i just graduated this may..... and i have to say these professor give you a run for your money but at the long end it's worth it...... i took the nclex and passes and it was easy..... so good luck to you getting in the program.... and good luck to princesstinkerbell with you studies

I'm a graduate from City Tech. I graduated in 2003 It was a program that was difficult to get into but the way things are going right now it's difficult to get into any nursing program. We are having a shortage of Nursing Educatiors. I got into the program on my first try as a transfer student. All I can tell you is that don't give up if this is your true passion. It will take a lot of hard work but in the end it will pay off. If you have any questions or need someone to talk to, feel free to email me or im me. I love helping others.
