What decisions helped you choose which facility to work at?

In a slumping economy like the one we are currently experiencing, you might not have a choice of several facilities. Once a job becomes available, many new nurses have recently been forced to take what they can get.
If you are fortunate enough to have a pick of several facilities, it is a good idea to privately speak with the floor nurses to get their input on the positive aspects and drawbacks of working there. Also, take into consideration the things that you value. These might include specialties offered, pay rates, benefits, working environment, opportunities for advancement, location, scheduling, and other factors.
Hopefully these actions will lead to the right facility to meet your needs.

I agree with the first post. Don't be choosy. And even if you do have a particular facility in mind, are they going to hire you? Are they even hiring these days? What's your edge above the other nurses who are senior, have more experience in the field? While it may be nice to have a checklist of places you want to work, remember that not everything works out the way we want it to. Check your local community if there are places who are hiring. Don't be picky. Be on it for the experience.
