what do you do about childcare?

Published

I'm going to be taking the CNA course the end of December. I'm just wondering what do you do about childcare if you work 12 hr shifts? I have a 15 month old... he'll be 17 months when I start to work. My husband is in the navy and works a lot, so I can't count on him to watch our son.

So what do you guys do? Any tips? Help!!

TIA!

I now have a private nanny. BUT before I had to cajole the daycare lady into taking my kids at 0600 and then she charged me an arm and half a torso for early drop off. My suggestion.... beg, borrow, steal, or share child care with someone else that you work or go to school with.

Try to find a hospital that has a daycare. Here in Dallas there are some that are open 24 hr for those parents that are working overnights. Do you have any family or good friends nearby?

no i don't have family or friends that can watch him...and the hospitals here in hawaii, I don't think they have childcare.

Hey, that's a pretty neat idea-having on-site child care in the hospital. Does it cost anything? Any special rules or restrictions?

I had to have a family member watch them temporarily. Now i have a private nanny/sitter who comes to my home. i have 3 kids 5 and under, so i KNEW i'd be paying an arm and a leg. So she comes here and i do it from home. I advertised on craigslist.com for her and she's worked out GREAT!:wink2:

I know that they deduct the money from your paycheck and you get a discount if you work for the hospital. I don't know of any special rules.
