I have my Chem 130 mid-term on Saturday. I am doing well in the class, getting a A, however, I am really worried about having to remember all of the formulas, conversion factors, etc. Plus the time to do it all. :(If anyone has recently taken the course, can you tell me if each portion is timed, or if you just have 3 hours to complete the whole thing? Also, are there ALOT of calculations on the exam? I am not asking for what is on the exam, I just want to get an idea of what to expect. I am probably making myself sick with worry over nothing, but I am freaking out a little bit! I never expected to be getting an A in this class, as I really hate Chem, but surprisingly I am doing well. However, I am not a good test taker and I am really worried that I won't remember all the formulas and methods of calculation. I do fine if I am able to follow an example in the book, but just off of memory....yikes!
Any help or insight would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks!

I haven't taken this class yet. I'll be taking it after I finish my math pre-req. I wish you the best of luck, but I'm sure that you won't need it. It sounds like you're doing fine.

I'm taking Chem next how do you like it? I'm not sure if I want to do it with Rio or go and take it in person. I hate the Chem aspects of Bio.
Hi AZMOM02!
Yeah, I was dreading chem and saved it for last. I went into it thinking I would be happy if I got a C. I know not a good attitude, but like you I hated the chem parts of BIO and was just not interested at all in taking it. I do have to say, 1/2 through it now, that it isn't as bad as I thought it would be at all. It is ALOT of math....ALOT, but in taking the course, the chem concepts that are introduced in the bio classes actually make a lot more sense now. I do have an awesome instructor who is great about answering questions and helping with the equation problems and stuff. And the book is easy to read and understand. Considering the whole Bio 201 fiasco and how that course was structured, this is 100 x's better. The essays aren't really essays, just short answer and calculations. The labs are somewhat time consuming and you have to buy a lot of extra stuff that doesn't come with the lab kits, but they have been fun to do and interesting. Plus, the assignments are due on Mondays, so that gives extra time to get them done. And again, the instructor is GREAT. I know you understand how important that is. It isn't at all what I had been expecting, but I have been pleasantly surprised.

I need CHM 130 and BIO 201 before I can apply to nursing school. It's been a long time since I went to college, I got an AA degree in '92 and even then I avoided these sciences and took Geology and Geography. I'm wondering if I can handle taking it online or not. How much harder is it online? I'm thinking it's going to be tough especially since It's been a while since I've taken a course in anything. Are there a lot of essays in a regular class as well? Should I take the CHM first then BIO? I should have started looking into this a month ago and now it's too late to start a class for the fall semester at GCC so I'm looking online. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
