does anyone think that the word 'embracing' is a subjective word and should not be used for charting.this is mainly in obstetrics.eg mum embracing baby.taling directly to baby or would u rather say mum holding baby.the word 'holding' , i feel is too inanimate a word to express words of bonding.

I think it's rather subjective, since to me it implies holding lovingly, not just holding. Maybe that's what the mom was doing though.
thanks coz thats exactly what mom was doing but apparently u cannot use subjective terms to chart????

If it were me charting, I would say mom was holding the baby. If she's doing other things typical of culturally appropriate bonding behavior, I'd chart those.
For example: "Mom holding and talking to baby in en face positon" or something similar. That way you are charting what you see while conveying a sense that there is bonding....versus Mom holding baby and watching TV.
I think the word embracing is subjective because it means different things to different people....

I would not use it.
I use bonding myself. And I use how they are bonding. Appropriately or not, in other words. Impaired or not. etc. And I use holding. Not embracing.
