I work at a hospice facility in northern New York; we have a new RN nurse manager whose nursing experience is in ICU. One patient of ours has a supra-pubic catheter and it was scheduled to be changed last Friday. On Monday of this week, the RNNM asked the LPN to change it; she told the RN she had never changed one before and did not know how. I am asking, is it within the LPN scope of practice to change supra-pubic catheters without certification to do so? I've written the BON and am awaiting their response. Also, this RNNM had directed the LPNs to titrate morphine for terminally ill patients without the RN assessment ... not sure I understand what is going on with her.
