Change of Specialty?

Hi everyone!

I have been a nurse for two years but only have 8 months of ER experience due to taking time off to complete my BSN full-time (I had my ADN when I first became a nurse).

I love the ER but did not love the burnout I experienced less than a year into the job.

I experienced a depressive episode while at work and long story short, I am currently in therapy and I believe it was due to a situational experience at work.

I have an irrational fear I am going to experience another depressive episode with a new job.

I am currently looking for a job.

I have always dreamed of working in the NICU, so I thought maybe now would be a good time to pursue this dream.

I wanted to start by going to work PT and then eventually FT.

What specialty do you work in? Why do you love it or why do you hate it?

Thank you in advance for taking the time out to reply and read this!!

School nursing! Depending on your location, can be a fabulous career! The schedule is awesome, the pay varies from town to town and state to state. Been here since 1994 and finally peeking at retirement....

I have primary progressive MS.  After nineteen years in wound care and working dementia units, both of which I loved, I had to find a job more suited to how I am now.  I drifted into community health, and I love it.  My clients are all intellectually challenged adults.  They are way smarter in a different way than what is considered "normal".  For one thing, they live in the moment, and enjoy the small pleasures in life.  We can all learn from that!
