Chances at UNC?

Published

Okay, I would LOVE to go to UNC for the accelerated nursing program. I applied, although 1 of my prerequisites is still in progress (A&P2) but will finish before UNC starts. I have a 3.56 cumulative GPA for my undergraduate degree, and about a 3.9 for the last 2 years of school (but my degree is in education so they may not see that as challenging). I have a 3.5 in my prerequisites. Do I have a shot at UNC or am I fooling myself? I did well on the GRE (1310) but UNC doesn't take the GRE.

All I can say is good luck! I honestly believe that you have a great shot of being accepted. I'd love to do their ABSN program but I somewhat think I'm fooling myself by holding on to an ounce of hope they'd accept me. I graduated with a 2.9 GPA...so far I have like a 3.8 in my prerequisites but when I spoke with an admissions counselor from UNC she told me that they mainly look at your undergraduate GPA and then go from there. I don't think what you have your degree in matters. What sucks is that if you're not accepted to the ABSN program you have to wait until the next application period to apply for the traditional program.

I'm not sure whether or not you're a resident of NC but another option would be Winston Salem State University (according to their website they have the fourth largest nursing program in NC) They have an ABSN program that is fully paid for by Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Here's the link for WSSU's program http://www.wssu.edu/WSSU/UndergraduateStudies/School+of+Health+Sciences/Nursing/BSN+Overview.htm

You may also want to look into ECU's Alternate Entry MSN program considering you've already taken the GRE and scored such a high score. Here's the link for more information about that program http://nursing.ecu.edu/ae_overview.htm

Whatever you decide to do, I wish you the best of luck...
