I recently got a card in the mail talking about when LPN's (in Pa, anyway) renew their licenses, they have to have so many credits. I know that RN's are doing it. I've asked around, & checked the state website, but can't find anything. Anyone know anything about it? Thanks!

I got my license this year, and since I was born in an odd number year, I have to renew my license this fall. However, I DO NOT have to have CEU's this year. I will have to have 15 CEU's per year for the next 2 years when I renew in 2009. This is in Arkansas, but I believe all LPN's must have CEU's to renew and they must pertain to your field of work (family practice, wound care, cardiac care, etc) Your state BON should have this somewhere on their site, or ask another LPN that's been licensed for awhile.
Good luck!

I am in Texas, where LVNs do not need CEUs before the very first license renewal. However, 20 CEUs need to be earned every 2 years thereafter, and the state is picky about when they are earned. You can start earning them a few weeks after your previous license renewal, and must have all of 20 CEUs completed 60 days before the next renewal date.
For example, I earned my initial licensure in early 2006, and renewed in early 2007 since I was born during an odd year. I did not need any CEUs for this first renewal. However, I need 20 CEUs by the time I renew in early 2009. I already have over 18 CEUs earned, so I'm not too worried. :)
