Certifications

I work on all the floors, certifications make me look good in hiring managers eyes, but that's only part of it. The more I can expand my knowledge base the better, with how many different types I have to take care of every little bit helps.

Well as a float I that makes total sense. But if someone is just trying to get certifications to land a job, not so much.

How long is the NIHSS certification duration, in years before renewal?

2 years.

I am an oncology certified nurse (OCN), because in my job we administer chemotherapy. I am also working on my Hospice and Palliative Certification (CHPN), as this is relevant to my job as well.

I agree with previous posters, many certifications require experience in the field first. I am not sure these will make you more marketable only more broke. Most of these would be lost skills if you do not have the job experience to back it up. For example, my chemo certification is a lot of math. If I did not practice this math in my place of work, on a weekly basis, that would be a skill that I would loose. Does that make sense? Too many certifications makes you book smart, but no real prove track record of being practice smart (in certification areas)

Save your money. Get the obvious ones you describe above and leave the specialized ones for your chosen field.
