just a little unclear on how to take the ccrn exam. i understand that an individual who wishes to take the CCRN exam has to meet minimum requirements such as working in a critical care environment for a minimum amount of time etc. however, is the exam itself offered year round? at that point, is it a matter of registering for the exam and taking it on your scheduled date and then you're all set? also, is the fee due at time of registration? thank you in advance. any input is appreciated.

take care,

chris

There is a minimal amount of time that you need to work in the ICU with so many hours ICU time. When you register for the exam, they ask for a statement from your boss on how long you worked in the ICU etc. You take the exam at a testing center and just schedule your time. The test takes about 2-3 hours to take. Make sure you get the pass CCRN book and there is a disk in the book..Do this over and over until you are proficient and this will help you to pass the exam. Best of luck.

thanks for the info. my (srna) friend and I are under the impression that ccrn will be icing on the cake rather than a deciding factor for acceptance. what are your impressions? thanks for the input guys.

The CCRN is offered year round if you want to take on the computer. I think you maybe talking about the paper test option.

The CCRN is an aspect of your application to set yourself apart from those that don't have it. I think there are at least 3 of 12 in my class that have it. I think that it is a plus to have, but not essential.

I don't think that there is a paper option anymore. It is icing on top of the cake especially if you don't have any graduate level classes or advanced chemistry classes..Bottom line is do not be afraid of it, just so long as you prepare, you'll be alright. Don't go into it cold, its too expensive to waste. Best of luck to you!!!
