Cavhd

Are you talking about CVVHD? This is used when a pt is too unstable to tolerate regular hemo dialysis. With multi organ failure the pt is probably on multiple pressors and you don't want to drop their bp even further.

With regular hemo dialysis the pt gets the fluid taken off in a couple of hours while with continuous venous venous hemo dialysis, the fluid gets taken off over 24hrs.

I would agree with the above post... their are many CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy) options out there. Everything from CVVHDF, CVVHD, SCUF.. etc. CAVHD it something I think they used to use.. but wasn't the most efficient or reliable.

As for CRRT it is what ukstudent explained it to be. A simply hemodialysis for pt's how are too hemodynamically unstable to tolerate the massive fluid removal during your typical dialysis treatment. Most CRRT pt's are on at least on vasopressor due to their instability, otherwise they are transitioned to the typical 3/week hemodialysis.
