Hi everyone!

I am currently in nursing school, and as I go further, i have come to realize that I do not like that nursing is so fast paced and stressful. I do very well if I know exactly what I am walking in to and have a routine for myself. I was wondering if there are any jobs that would be available for new nurses that like routine and do the same thing every day.

Thank you!

I have the same workplace preferences. I like routinized working environments, a reasonable pace, predictability, and having an idea of how the shift will unfold.

Long term care (a.k.a. the nursing home industry) worked out reasonably well for me. It is generally the same residents with the same medications and treatments. Once in a blue moon you will need to send a deteriorating nursing home resident to the hospital ER. Otherwise, nursing homes offered the predictability I desired.

You might want to consider dialysis nursing. Sounds to me like it would fit the bill pretty well. Plenty of work out there.

Thank you for the idea! Is dialysis nursing difficult to get in to as a new nurse?

It depends on the hiring practices of the freestanding dialysis centers in the city where you wish to work. As a new grad RN in 2010 with four years of LPN experience but without any med/surg experience, I could not find a dialysis center willing to hire me. Your mileage may vary.
