Career Path...

Hi all!

I was wondering if you could start your nursing career all over again, would you have gone a different route? picked a different specialty? or achieved a higher degree or certification? I am a new grad and I am just trying to get insight on where I should point my career. I think a good start for me is to finish my BSN but from there, who knows..This is why I love the Nursing field so much, there are many different avenues and paths one can take...Just curious if some of you would change your path...Thanks! :nurse:

No one?

Yep, had I known I could have taken out student loans, I would have gone straight for my BSN instead of working two jobs and getting my LPN and then my RN. I had no guidance back in the day.

I also would have gone straight into L&D, or going into med/surg and then transferring over.

Thanks! Tokmom...L&D is the area I loved the most in school, but unfortunately they won't hire a new grad into L&D right out of school around here :(.

after 22 years in govt/business [with a BS and a Master of Arts], here's how i started and will pursue my nursing career: i worked as receptionist [assisted living/nursing/hospice facility] while i got my CNA; now i'm working as a CNA while i get my medication aide certificate, then i'll work as a med aide while i get my lpn [starting next month], lastly i'll work as an lpn while getting my rn.

I would have went straight from a BSN to MN. That way I would have more options from the get go. I also would have tried to get into the specialty I wanted:redbeathe, (not just taking a job because it was full-time.)
