Calling in sick to work

Hi,

I guess I just need some reassurance. I had to call off today because since sunday I have had a fever and it will not break. I have gone to the doc and have been give a large dose of antibiotics because I have a severe sinus infection but my fever still persists and I am so dizzy and weak it is impossible to do my job. I am a RN on a alzheimers unit at a nursing home and have been working there for almost a year. I am also a mother of twins and have had to call off 5 times not including today due to illnesses they have had and myself as well. I guess that is what happens when you have little ones. I am also getting married this weekend and I don't want to be so sick on my wedding day. I am thinking I am going to have to call off tomorrow too. I have a doctors note but I feel horrible because they do not have enough staff for us to call off sick! Also I don't want to get wrote up for being ill but what can I do?

The professional thing to do is to make sure that you communicate fully with your leadership. Let them know what is going on, what your concerns are, and what your plans are. Give them the time to make arrangements to replace you, or better yet, make your own arrangements.

Congratulations.

Thank you for your help! I always make sure there is plenty of time for replacement to be found and I always make sure they understand exactly why I am not able to be there. Again thanks for your help!

I have to say calling in 6 times in your first year is quite a bit, but if you're sick, you're sick. Hope you feel better soon. How high is your temp?
