Call Pay for OR

Hey to anyone, our hospital is trying to change our call in policy. Currently, call would not start until you physically leave the building and get called back in. The problem with that is we are only supposed to run a day shift, but are continually having to stay over when rooms run late to cover the schedule. It is only straight time unless you are over 40 hours then it is time & a half. Call used to start at 3:30 unless you worked until 4:30 at $2.00 an hour. When does everyones call start? How do your hospitals handle this? Thank you.

We're staffed 24/7, but anytime we get a case after 2300, we call in two people. Call is in 8hr shifts, 15-23 and 23-7, with a 7-15 on weekends/holidays. We are paid $2/hr and time and a half when called in with 2hrs min guaranteed. Technically, we aren't supposed to be call back until after we've left but most managers look the other way when people slip out at 1515 and clock in as call back.

Thank you so much. We were told to not try that or we would probably regret it later.

I work in a Connecticut hospital. We are staffed up until 11pm. We have "lates" and "call." Call starts at the end of your shift and continues overnight until 7am. So for me, I am on from 3:30pm to 7am the next morning. We get $6.50/hr to hold the beeper and time and a half when we actually get called in. We also have "lates" that last from 3:30-5:30pm. So if alot of rooms run later than 3:30 and we need extra staff members to stay, the person scheduled for a "late" is the first to stay, the person on "call" is the second to stay (if needed), and if we were super busy, that's when staff members not on late or call are asked to stay as well. If you were asked to stay, the hospital will pay you as if you were on call, i.e. time and a half for the time worked. Very fair, and works well for us!

If we stay more than an hour after our shift we qualify for time and a half regardless if we are over 40hrs that week. If it is our call day during the week we usually come in at noon and work til 2030 or cases are done. Our call then is til 7 am or 10.5hrs. Weekends are of course a whole other story and mine are 72 hrs of call, but that is because I am an RNFA and the necessity. Hope you get the pay you deserve!!
