SITUATION:

Iam able to take the test last month and sadly didn't pass. Im from Philippines and now staying with my dad here in Florida, but next month will be transferring in NY.

QUESTION:

I was thinking of taking exam in NY instead of CALI, how will i do it?

do they have same requirements?

Hope someone can help me with this..

Moving this to the International forum

NY will require CVS before you can even sit the exam which can take up to 8 months processing. Next there is retrogression and unless you have a valid work visa there is no way you can stay and work in the US due to retrogression. Better to stay with Ca and re take the exam.

Unless you have a visa that will permit you to live and work in the US, suggest that you take the exam again for CA. The questions that you get on the exam are not going to be any different and it is not easier for another state. The questions are based on how you answer the previous questions in the same exam and the questions are selected by the computer.

Without that visa, does not make any sense to spend all of that extra money if you cannot work in NY.

hi,

yes im an immigrant here in US.. so I guess ill take the CALI test again,

then apply for reciprocity? pls enlighten me

another question :

what's the next step i should do? i mean the forms and everything..

and does online review worth to try?

You will still have to complete CVS for NY even if you pass and meet licensure with another state. You should have forms for Ca plus fee and you will also need to pay pearsonvue again, they will send ATT once they get permission from BRN. All forms re CVS can be found on CGFNS website

If you have the time then consider Suzanne's plan which can be found as a sticky in the NCLEX forum, you will need to complete the first tip and have 15 posts to name before you can send her a pm

So you mean if ill go and take the Ca test again and if ever ill make it this time ill apply for this CVS thing? this is kinda new to me, where can I get this? and how long would it take for this?

thanks again :D

Regardless on which state you apply for licensure if you move to another state you have to meet their requirements for foreign trained nurse. For NY that is CVS for Florida and most other states it is CES both are obtained from CGFNS.org website CVS takes between 6-12 months and you will not be able to nurse in NY as they will not issue license without it. Also for NY you have to take a couple of courses which can be done online and information is on the NY nursing BON website
