Hi,
I graduate in April from an ASD BSN program in MI. I was thinking of putting CA for my licensing state. I see on the BON website it says a requirement is microbio with lab. I have general bio with lab, molecular and cellular bio with lab, but my microbio is not with a lab (3cr). Will they give me a hard time? If so would the the BON recognize an all online microbio w/lab? I hear it doesn't show as an online course on a transcript.
I'm wondering if it's better to pick another state and once I get my license in another state just submit an endorsement application to CA due to their processing time. Thoughts?
Thank you in advance!!

My understanding (and I could be wrong), is that when you apply for endorsement, they still review your transcripts to verify that all of their requirements have been met. There are many out-of-state RNs who have to take "deficiency" courses in order to receive endorsement in CA. Not sure if online w/lab would qualify. Maybe someone else could chime in on that front.

I've taken many of my science pre-req courses such as A&P as hybrids (online lecture with in-person lab) and they were all accepted by the CA BRN. Microbio was one of the few I opted for both lecture and lab in person, but that was because I wanted to escape a toddler for a few hours each week :)
The CA BRN will review your transcripts and courses to determine if they meet their requirement. If something doesn't, they'll tell you so, and they're pretty inflexible on their "No"s. I don't know how they'll view your microbio class, but the worst case scenario is that they tell you No, you take a microbio class with lab at your local CC, you reapply and get your endorsement. Lots of nurses end up doing that.
Best of luck.
