Burned out

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I'm an ICU nurse. I've worked with the same hospital system for 10 years. I love the people that I work with. I love the patients because we have lost so much staff due to bad management and travel contracts that staffing has been very short. We get devices like ECMO, tandems etc. We are singled with these patients and have little support oftentimes. It's just starting to get to me. I've tried leaving bedside and went to clinic. It was an awful experience.  I'm not sure what to do.

Specializes in VA-BC, CRNI.

There are lots of options for different jobs such as becoming a PICC/vascular access nurse within the hospital, working in ambulatory treatment, outpatient infusion, among all of the other specialties within the hospital. There are non-bedside roles of course like educator, supervisor, etc.

Outside of the hospital there are lots of opportunities like home infusion/home health, LTACHs, insurance companies, consulting, teaching, drug and medical device manufacturing, etc.
