hi guys
i've posted this in the student forum as well!
i had a situation in class yesterday where i was the victim of bullying by a number of other students. briefly, they were making fun of my level of class participation. it was not in fun - it was nasty!
i have a class presentation due next week and am considering making class bullying my subject. the tutor has been advised.
so, all you students and new graduates out there, i'm doing a survey on whether you've been bullied in class and, if so, how did you deal with it?
i'm hoping that i can get my message accross to these people without having to involve the institute and without confrontation.
i would appreciate your input.

I am in my last semester of nursing school and I have encountered bullying, I would have never guessed it . Such a noble field and classmates act in such an unacceptable manner. I am a male student over 35 and I noticed that there is another male student(mid 20's) in our class that feels that he has to intimidate others in the class and show off that he is the papi chulo to the girls. I have mentioned it my instructors and other classmates but people do not want to get involved. I find that most of my classmates are kind sensitive people who do not know how to respond to this bully, they simply cringe and walk way. I cant say the same for myself, this person attempted to bully me 2nd semester, my orderering me to get out of a seat that he was sitting in, (i thought i was back in highschool). He decided to push his way into my personal space, (my whole life flashed before my eyes getting kicked out of school, paying back an enormous student loan, my wife, my kid etc.), basically I got straight into his face and feinted a hit to his face, and asked him if he needed a hug. Needless to say this person has never bullied me again, and actually joins me for lunch now and them. Idiots like this only respect those that can stand up to them. I know that most people on this board will disagree, but I have encountered people like this before, you short circuit them by returning the favor, most of all dont be afraid " these idiots smell fear", remember out of all of the careers involving humans (fire dept , police,), nursing appears to be one of the few that do not give psychological evaluations, so invariably a few border line and anti social disorder types fall through the cracks. As far as being bullied in class participation, try not to answer all of the questions, nobody likes a know it all, and if you get bullied again while in lecture , after class make it a point to approach the subject(s) , confidently and thank them for their support. Once again I know its not the professional thing to do, but neither is bullying, one can literally throw themselves into a depression from people like these. Best of luck to you,and show no fear!
