BSN at NYU

Hello Everyone!

I'm new to this site and I would love to get your opinion and feedback on a couple of things.

I'm a 37 year old mother of two young children, who is now back to school to finish her bachelors. I have always being interested in nursing and as a teenager I did a lot of volunteering back in my country. I have been in the hospitality/entertainment business for the past 12 years and completely lost interest in it. I always knew I was meant to do something more meaningful in my life and nursing has always been my call, but always put it aside for fear of being too old to go back to school.

I started this semester at NYU continuing education and LOVE IT, but my main goal is to try to get in to the BSN program. Anyone currently studying or graduated from the program? Not the accelerated one (which I saw many postings for it on this site!) but the regular BSN. What are your advice and suggestion on getting in? I will have to talk to my advisor and see if I can transfer after the first year and start taking all the pre-reqs I guess. I'm also attending the open house next week since it's impossible to contact the faculty and they do not answer enquiries.

How intense is the program? My two children are both in daycare so have time to study and attend class during the day and possibly at night, if they even offer this option!

I think my main fear is being too old, but then again I know there is no age limit for being a nurse (or for pursuing your dreams, for that matter!) so I'm very determined to do this. IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING....right?!

Thanks again for all your help and suggestions.

Kika
