BSN needed for Case Management???

Published

I have a previous BA. I used to be a Case/Social Worker and my ultimate goal is to become a CCM. I also have an AAS degree(Nursing) and honestly dont feel like obtaining another Bachelors degree. Will I be marketable with the two college degrees I have once I take the CCM exam or do I HAVE to get a BSN? Any input is greatly appreciated.

Are you a Nurse Case Manager right now? From what I have read in terms of eligibility you will need to meet other criteria in addition to educational requirements: Certification & Renewal | CCMC. For instance employment as a Nurse Case Manager is a requirement. In order to get a CM job you may or may not need a BSN. Many employers I have looked at will accept BA or BS in something health care related. On the other hand, in my experience higher paying employers require a BSN.

By the way, I felt similar to you when I first started studying nursing. I too had a BA in health care and a work background that included social service case management. I decided to receive my BSN after I earned my ADN because I saw early on from reading job descriptions that opportunities in nursing were closed off to me otherwise. Good luck.
