BSN or MSN?

Published

I recently graduated with an ADN from a local community college. I have a bachelor's degree in another field (journalism). I am trying to decide if it makes more sense to enroll in an RN to BSN program or just skip ahead to an RN to MSN program for students with a bachelor's in another field. The second option would definitely cost more and take more time. But if I am going back to school, I would like to end up with a master's degree. Either way, I plan to enroll in a fully online program. Would love some advice.

If your end goal is a Masters in Nursing, I would suggest looking into programs that offer both degrees. Search for RN-to-BSN-MSN. Getting into one of these MSN programs will provide you the option to receive your BSN (once that portion of the program has been achieved) should you decide that you need a break from school for a bit.

If you continue on after completing the BSN bridge courses and all MSN requires, you will receive both degrees at graduation.
