BS to Bsn program vs pre-nursing adn to bsn

Published

HI!

I really have no idea how to use the forum and I made a post somewhere. I am going to copy and past here.

"Hello

I didn't get into any of the bsn nursing programs that I applied to. But I did get accepted into my second major provided at cal state La and Csun for public health.

But it I recently recieved a letter from mount saint Mary's university a week ago saying that I was accepted into their pre-nursing adn program.

This is left me in a predicament to try and decide which path is better for me. In the end I do have the same path of getting my bsn and possibly looking into being a public health nurse in the future

Im looking for advice. In your experience in getting your degree and the program's you were in.

So I have the option of

1. Csun for public health -> apply to an accelerated nursing program for bachelors...(I'm just a little concerned if I can handle the intensive courses and if I'm good under pressure)

or

2. Mount saint Mary pre-nursing-> interview for direct nursing adn program (depends if I get in because it isn't guaranteed)->then applying to any cal state and mount saint Mary to bridge to bsn.

Thank you for reading my post."

Specializes in NICU, Trauma, Oncology.

If it were me, I'd take the ADN route then look into BSN/MPH programs. I am not familiar with the CSUN program but most of the BS level public health programs are very basic in terms of public health whereas at the masters level you can really focus your studies in a specific area of public health - community health, women's health, global health, health policy, epidemiology, etc - and that specialization will only make your more marketable combined with the RN

Of course, I did it all backwards. I got a BA in Chem, Masters in Pub health and now working on my ADN ;)

Awesome I'm glad to get a comment from you. :)

thanks getting a comment gives me a bit of relief. I'm not very familiar with the masters route. Is it possible to jump into masters in public health like that? I do kinda want to specialize in epidemiology if i do enter that field.

All I know about csun is that it is a 2 year program and at the end of the year there is a required internship class.

How do you feel about the route you took?
