breaking travel contract

Have you spoken to your agency first about this? In most cases, you will be responsible for the hoursing costs for the duration of the contract. Can you get placed by them at another facility in the area, where you can keep the same housing? That is usually an option.

Thanks for the reply. I know of another traveler who already tried to get out of her contract at the same facility but there are no other jobs in the area. I know of hospitals breaking contract's with out any warning to there travelers. How is it possible that they can break there contracts but traveler's can't if the assignment is dangerous.

That isn't always true. Last May, 2005 a hospital cancelled my contract for some unknown reason......and I was not held responsible for the housing or anything else. Another company I went with tried to get me to sign a statement saying that I would be responsible even if the hospital cancelled me...but I refused to sign it and I still worked my 13 weeks.

Isn't "unsafe working conditions grounds" to terminate your contract? I would think your company would stand behind you on this.

I was tempted to break a contract but was told by my company that I would be responsible for the cost of replacing a nurse which equalled 10k. I did not have housing through them. So basically they can threaten you with what whatever they can. Oh and now I have the facility I'm currently at, pulling out of the contract, after agreeing to it months ago (I've been at the same place since June). Fortunately I was getting tired of this place and my company was able to place me at one of the hospitals I really wanted. It worked out but that really isn't the point. It's a shame how we're the ones in the trenches and yet we have the least amount of power. We have to be subject to will of the facility and company because of that signed contract. I'm shopping around and actually not that upset b/c I'll be making a lot more money at the new facility and real need a change of pace after 8months at one place.
