Feb 7Feb 7 Doesn't the BON generally let a nurse know within 60-90 days that a complaint has been filed against them? I know the investigation takes a lot longer
Feb 7Feb 7 Yes and No. Generally, state laws require BONs to notify a nurse when a complaint and investigation has been opened within a set amount of time which is usually 30 days to 90 days for most states, but some states like my state, Kansas, do not have a hard and fast timeline on notification. Each state varies. Most states have a timeline or maximum amount of time before they have to notify which varies, but is around 30 to 90 days. There are exceptions to the above and they are.......if notifying the Nurse could jeopardize the investigation, then they don't have to notify within that ser time period. Source-KSA 65-1135 and KSA 77-501 Read your states Nurse Practice Act. It will clearly state whether there is a time limit on when your state BON has to notify you by, if a formal complaint has been launched. Remember, some states don't have a set timeline.
