I am taking over care of a patient from a nurse who quit the company on not-so-great of terms. Apparently the nurse was quite unprofessional in telling the patient way more than she should have about the company, because the patient was warning ME about this company and yadayada (I am new). She mentioned some kind of black-list where companies that have unfavorable experiences with nurses can register the nurse. Then other companies (not just Home Health, I presume) thinking of hiring the nurse can look them up and see they are blacklisted.
Anybody heard of this?! Is this legal??

In the Dallas area of Texas, the hospitals use a firm called Group One. It is a famous entity used to blacklist people. As far as what was described to you, I think somebody was convoluting the blacklist that the government has for those who have been designated as not being able to work on government projects for some reason, usually a fraud conviction. Other than that, one company usually blacklists an individual on an individual basis. I do not know of any "blacklist clearing house" other than Group One.
Thank you, I think it may be something like the Group One thing. No reason to think it's government related.
Reasonable to think that Group One is not the only company in that lineup. Others are just not in the media by name. The employee should sign a release for whatever background check/gatekeeper firm is being used though. One such firm that I've encountered has been Kroll. However, the decisions were made by the employer based upon information turned up by Kroll.

These background checks and their results are just another excuse for the "Yes, we have no job for you, now go away" syndrome for the poor soul searching for work.
