Hi everyone,

my name is Abhinay sunkara i am a registered nurse from INDIA and i cleared NCLEX RN for NEWYORK state.i came to USA for pursuing my masters in any nursing college in Newyork but college does not provided me admission due to lack of experience in USA even though i have experience from my country .So i joined Masters in Health service administration in Central Michigan University for my Masters in health service administration but i am interested in doing my masters in nursing field can anyone help me by providing any inputs regarding col in Newyork accepting Indian students for masters in nursing courses.thank you

May I know which college/university that refuses to admit you due to lack of clinical experience in the US? I'm a foreign nurse who recently got licensed in the state of NY and wish to pursue my MSN degree there as well. I've started working on my application and I'm wondering what are my chances in getting admission.

which country are u from ,i applied to wagner college ,dyouville college ,mountsaint mary college ,john fisher college these col rejected me due to lack of experience in usa even though i have a gpa score of 4 on 4 point scale

I'm from the Philippines. I was actually thinking of applying to st fisher college. I didn't know they preferred getting students who had clinical experience in the US. Did you apply to get into their nurse practitioner program?

yes i applied for admission into Masters in Family nurse practitioner for John Fisher college they said they needed us experience

I contacted St. John fisher college and they told me that they accept international students. I believe they should understand that our experience will definitely be coming from a different country. Was it clear that you were applying as an international student though? I'm thinking of submitting my application early next year.

AT first they told they will admit international students so i applied and sent all the required documents and send my wes report too but after evaluation which took nearly a month they said it is difficult to get admission as the course is highly competitive .

Guys, just so you know, if you read in the other more specialized nursing forum here for your topic in particular, you'll find even those with US paid nursing experience (1-4 years or more) plus US educated are also having a tough time getting accepted. There are just so many limited slots.

It helps a lot to have some good personal and character references from their supervisors, from professors so that the school's evaluators can see beyond just having the working experiences but to shed light on other parts of the applicant's personality and how they work and are viewed upon, which is hard to tell just from other applicants who "all look the same" from the paperwork.

All of these schools can be very selective in their selection process and basically pick from the top of the cream as I'm sure the applicant pool probably number in the 100's if not in the 1,000's for just a small percentage of that to be able to be qualified to move on the next stage.

thank for the reply i am actually pursuing my masters in health service administration as i thought that i wont be getting admission for masters programmes in nursing is this course is in demand

Yes, true, but having US experience in nursing helps your application process and in future job searches, having some business experiences helps also, so I'm told from my US nursing contacts. Good luck!

Yes, thats' a given already and the assumption is that you do have nursing experience in another country, but were you able to make good use of that and parlayed that to being in a US environment?
