Benefits at Vanderbilt

They did just change the nurse tuition benefit. It is now that you have to be employed for three years in order to use this benefit. You also must now obtain a BSN versus ASN. The pay for LPN is not that great.

I have been doing some research for Vanderbilt as I am looking too. The tuition is after 6 months. For dependent tuition coverage, it is now 3 years.

I am also curious about hourly rate. I have 12 years experience.

The research that you are quoting is old an outdated. I can assure that if you contact the benefits office they will share what I shared. The only way you can see the current information is with a vunet ID and password. It changed as of Oct 1 last year. They were not even accept applications for the Nurse Tuition benefit until April because of the changes. I resigned as of March 9th this year. There was some unhappy LPN because of the changes now Motlow, Columbia state will not be a option. This was in part due to Vandy's magnet status which says that a certain percentage of staff must be BSN RN. Check it out and see for your self.

Also there are two different benefits one is a hr benefit and the other which is part of. VPPPP is a nursing benefit

I interviewed there and declined after finding out the pay.

Unfortunately it seems that pay is horrible all around Nashville...

It's best to go straight to the source for information like this. As for starting pay, Vanderbilt bases pay for nurses on some formula that takes into account level of experience, scores on your annual evaluations, and something else I can't remember at the moment. They also have a clinical ladder where you can go through a process to become an RN3 or RN4 ( Vanderbilt Nursing, Vanderbilt Professional Nursing Practice Program (VPNPP) ), and those come with automatic raises to your base pay. In my experience, Vanderbilt's pay is in line with the bottom end of averages around Nashville, but their shift diffs are basically the same as everywhere else.

As for tuition benefits, I don't know the details because I don't use that benefit, but they have reined it in over the past year...but as someone who's committed to remaining a bedside nurse, I don't mind. I think they did it mainly as a retention measure, if that makes sense...why reward staff who are going to leave by giving them a free degree with no strings attached? So this past year they reined in the tuition benefit...and gave raises to nursing staff. That's just fine with me!
