Been out of school for 3 years

Published

Hi! So I have been out of school for 3 years. I failed my test the first time I took it which really discouraged me from taking it again. So I took a break from it and now I decided Im ready to get back into it but for those who have been out of school which reviews did you take that helped you re-learn the material? Also If i lost the application they sent me with my results where can I get a new application?

You can apply for re-examination by downloading the application from your state board of registered nursing (or LVN). This is good to hear. I have been out of school for years as well, I didn't pass my last exam, and am geared up to re-test. I replied to your post to encourage that you are NOT alone. re-takers need empowerment, encouragement and motivation from each other. I am using saunders for content, kaplan trainers and book for test-taking strategies, tons of study guides that has labs, meds, diagrams, etc, especially in learning the SATA type questions. When I had to retake the exam, I had tons of priority, meds and select all that apply (SATA), so I will prepare way better next time around.

I wish you luck, and they say 100 questions a day for the next 6 weeks, so that would be around 2000 questions is ideal to effectively prepare for the NCLEX the next time around.

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. Everyday I study feels like a struggle because I get scared and I lose hope that I wont be able to re-learn everything. But reading this gets my hopes up and reminds me that I can do it! Goodluck to you as well! =)

Hurst was a really good content review for me and I've heard good things (but have not used) the Success series of books. Also the Kaplan review book "NCLEX - Pn ( or RN) Strategies, Practice, and Review" was real good for breaking down questions and not making stupid/ nervous mistakes.

Yeah I heard Hurst was really good for content! Thanks for the advice =]

hi! i know somebody that was out of school for about the same amount of time or longer (possibly 4 years). they studied for like 2 months. they said saunders comprehensive nclex review helped them a lot . I recently passed as well and i used saunders, it is a good book. It has everything you need and it explains it in simple terms. To wrap it up hurst helped. Hurst is amazing for content as well. I think those two will help you a lot. and an app if you have a smart phone called nclex mastery. you should be fine and i know for sure you will pass.

Oh really? Ok thank you so much! I will try that!

I graduated in December 2013, took NCLEX February 2014 and failed. I was devastated and exhausted so I took a long break. About a month ago I decided to pick up my books and begin again. I am currently completing hurst review (nice reshresher). I hope to retake the exam in 3 months. You are not alone. I'm terrified but I got to keep pressing forward.

Really? Wow, thank you so much for the support and encouragement..I really need it. Goodluck to you in 3 months!

Im in the same boat. I'm a foreign graduate nurse from Philippines. It's been awhile since I graduated from college. I used Saunders, PDA and the nclex RN mastery app. I like the Saunders for its content. 3 weeks from now is my exam and hoping I can pass it. Fingers crossed!

Wow! When did you get here from the philippines? I was born there but I left really early. Goodluck!
