becoming an NP??

I am wondering if anyone can offer me any guidance regarding becoming an NP. I have been accepted to an NP program beginning next month and am quite anxious. I have worked hard and grown from an LPN to RN then I earned my BSN degree. I've worked primarily emergency room nursing and yet I am quite nervous about this educational goal.. I guess im scared of failure.. Any words?

First of all, congratulations on getting accepted into a NP program!! That is no small feat in this competitive admission climate. You should be very proud of your accomplishments :yeah::yeah::yeah:.

That being said, I don't think you're alone; I've been feeling the same way, lol!! I've worked so hard to gain acceptance into a program and cried over denial letters that you would think that I would just be over the moon with joy now that I've been accepted. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy to be accepted but, now, I find myself so anxious about starting the program. I fear that I won't be able to cut it as an ACNP and I fear starting over as a novice. I'm used to being one of the "expert nurses" at work and a good student. I'm worried about writing graduate level papers and pathophysiology, pharmacology, etc. I guess, that like you, I'm afraid of failing. Maybe that fear is a healthy way of keeping us on our toes during the next journey in our lives :clown::clown:

It sounds like you have a strong determination and drive to meet your goals so I'll bet that you will be successful in your studies. Here's to first day jitters!!

BTW, what type of NP program are you entering?

Your accomplishments so far pretty much tell me that you'll make it happen. LPN to NP student is quite a road you've taken yourself down. I'm sure there've been many doubters along the way, but you've done what they could only dream for themselves. The fear you feel is probably good. It'll keep you sharp, just don't let it paralyze you. And remember........take a few moments to pat yourself on the back. I'm impressed and inspired!

I went the same route. You would be fine.
