Hi guys!
I have a bachelor of English from France and one year of Master which I completed, in total i have at least 200 credits but I don't know if they fall into the General Electives Category.
I was wondering if I could just submit a comprehensive report to describe the courses I completed so that they could be counted as my General Electives (6.0 credits) or if I had to take more courses at University level here before I can apply?
Has anyone been in the same situation? I am so confused by the general electives... they are supposed to be from at least 2 different academic areas. I took several different courses (civilization, art history, linguistics) but all fall under English studies.
Would these be accepted? I need to know so I plan to take more courses ASAP, otherwise I'll have to push back my application and I have already waited for too long :/
Thanks in advance for sharing your experience and feedback. Help me! :/

what does your transcript say? Are the subjects all listed as "English" or do they have differing titles?
Hi, They do have different titles, They go: English - civilization, English - literature, etc...Would those be considered as "different Academic areas" though?
I think they're looking for subjects from different departments. If it's all Engl 100, Engl 110, Engl 250, Engl 311 etc then I think it might be a problem but you really need to talk to BCIT about it. They have provisions for assessing foreign credentials. I suggest you contact them now & figure out what they'll give you credit for & see if they'll transfer one of those courses as a History course or something similar.
You are totally right. I will show them the details and see if they'll accept it. Also, I did not get the full year but I got most of my credits. I did not technically fail the year but since I was absent on a few classes, I could not pass. I don't know what the rule is in Canada but can I get recognition just for the credits I passed (even if my transcript said I failed the year?) and also do you think it's a bad idea to show a transcript that shows I failed? The idea is really to show them a transcript on which some credits will be granted.... Thanks for all your advices babyfriendly, where are you at in our application process?

You will be required to submit official transcripts from all post secondary institutions that you have attended. Transfer credits are case by case, so your best option is to contact the admission office since your courses were from outside of Canada. Nursing programs are extremely competitive on the coast, and many individuals use pre-reqs to give themselves a competitive GPA. Any idea whether they look at cumulative or just pre req GPA for entrance?

They only look at your GPA from the prerequisites in determining whether or not you will be shortlisted. If you have an unsatisfactory transcript from the past, you are allowed to submit a letter of explanation for your performance and still be considered for admission. However, you will not be shortlisted if your GPA for the prerequisites is not competitive enough.
