A couple of articles about nasty things that RNs
did to lose their licenses:

Some of these are scary! I mean, I've heard of
people losing their licenses before, but withholding
somebody's bedpan!? And these are just the ones
that were *caught*!
Do these things really happen!?

It's sad, but true that no matter where you go there are going to be some pretty bad eggs, some idiots, and some people making brainless decisions.
Wouldn't it be great if it were as popular to publish the exceptionally great things that our colleagues were doing? I am afraid that to Joe Q Public, the good stuff doesn't read nearly as well as the dirt!!!
We have a supervisor who made some stupid mistake and was nearly fired -- civil issue ( made restitution ) and another staff nurse who is recieved a verbal dose of "corrective action" when caught taking items from a co-worker's locker (again). It just doesn't make sense. I am big on accountability and believe that people need to take responsibility for their actions -- the punishments should fit not only the crime, but the person's history and willingness to change their ways. If something has become a pattern (as opposed to one bone-headed decision) -- then the punishments should increase until the problem gets resolved!!!

I agree so sad not to read the POSITIVE we do. I am really tired of these things myself...this and the dangerous docs thread, while are good for venting are not doing my attitude any good.

You're right, of course -- it's always easier to rant than
to rave. So few people point out the good things.
Well, then: what about all the *selfless* nurses you've
known, who've done the right thing when they
would not have had to bother? Or who did what they
thought was right, despite personal consequences?

I just don't think this is the kind of article that PROMOTES a positive image of nursing. And I don't think that we want to show a negative image of nursing here.
