I am a WA resident planning to attend nursing school in Montana. Before I get into the nursing program, I have to get a background check done.
I need to know, do I get it from WA state or the state that I plan on going to school at? How do I obtain that?

I would ask your school if they need it from the state your from or the state your going to? I assume it really wouldn't matter since the states share criminal history data banks. I Just picked up my back round check sheet today. I went to the Washington State Highway Patrol office like my school told me too and got it there. It is just a single page form and will cost like 10 to 15 dollars when you turn it back in at the office. I hope this helps clear up your question a little.

You can go to the WA state patrol for a fee they can do a background check. You can specify you would like this to include ID, MT and OR so you should be covered. There can be a backlog so if you do this give yourself time. I know when we perform background checks we always want the border states just to ensure the best possible senario. I went to school in IL and we had clinicals in IN as well as IL. You can always ask the school you will be attending what they recommend. I once had a surveyor ask me if I performed a background check from CO on a nurse working in NM. Good luck in nursing school.
