Background Check

Published

How can I get a background check on myself. I was arrested a 3 times and I know that at least one of them got off my record. I posted bail for public intoxication. Is that a misdemeanor? The other two times I had to go to court and the judge made me attend classes and pay a small fine. I'm not sure if they both got off my record or if only one did. Anyways I have no clue what my records look like, and I was reading that a misdemeanor can prevent you from getting your rn license. So I would like to know what my record looks like so I can tell the director of my nursing department. Or should I just tell them about all 3 incedents. (public intoxication, domestic violence/this is the one that got off my records, and underage drinking) and pray that she doesn't judge me. This really scares me, because I'm worried about it preventing me from getting my license. I was young and stupid, and I have changed. I also don't remember the dates of these happenings and I know they will want to know dates etc.

You can go to any local law enforcement agency (police, sheriff) and ask them to help you obtain your criminal record. Most agencies will charge an administration fee ranging from $10-$50 to fingerprint and submit for you. The only way to know if a crime is a misd. or a felony is to see your record because it varies from state to state and locale to locale. Again, you need to enlist the help of your local law enforcement agency because they can better assist you.

Don't be worried about not getting your license I do understand what you are going through. I had been arested a few times when I was a teenager and I even have two felonies on my record ( all my charges had to do with check fraud). I had to go through a moral character review by the BON. It did take a few months so be prepared for that. They will ask you for original court documents ( certificate of convictions) and character reference letters, and also a letter from yourself explaining what happened and how far you have come since then. I met face to face with the board I didnt have to but the Investigator thought it would be a good Idea. They were so nice I think they had their mind made up before I even entered the room. The letters people wrote me were excellent. Just be honest and upfront and everything will be ok. I too was worried about what to say on Interviews and I've been on 2 so far and was honest and they didnt seem bothered by it, as a matter of fact one called me back for a second Interview that day. So just think positive :)
