I had applied for a job posting at the London Health Sciences Centre. While I never thought much of it, to my surprise they emailed me back asking to fill out the online application and fax it back to them. I had not heard from them for roughly two weeks. Luckily, I got an email from the head of human resources yesterday morning as I was checking my email that moment and they told me they couldn't get in touch with my preceptor and to contact her so they could complete my reference checks (they had left multiple messages for her and somehow her daughter had DELETED the messages from lhsc) ....and that my clinical instructor said she was 'too busy' at the time of the call and would fill out an online reference check.
Anyway, I'm just wondering who here has had their background checked BEFORE even going for the interview? It's through a company called 'Backcheck', and what kind of information do they ask? My manager wasn't called at my part time job I've had throughout nursing school, only my preceptor and my clinical instructor. I'm hoping for the best because I just started at a clinic as a part time RN and I hate it. It's nothing like what was described in the interview, I received 2 days orientation and I get paid .50 cents less than what they told me during the interview. I actually wasn't even told I was hired, just to come in for a 'shadow day' and the next thing they were giving me was tax forms.
Anyway, that's a different story.

Hi, Northern Health Authourity in BC uses "Backcheck" as well. My understanding is that by the prospective employer running a check on you it means you have been shortlisted. Saves HR time by then only interviewing those with positive checks. It is pretty standard questions for your references. Would you hire again, etc. Good luck!!

When I was working in Edmonton we did backcheck also. We needed 3 (three) references and each one WAS contacted. And yes, I had to hand it in at the time of the first interview.
RNWindsorRN
london also wanted my references prior to interview

Ultrarunner,
Do you know by any chance how long is the recruiting or hiring process in Sunnybrook?
I had an interview a week ago and dying to find out the result. Do you think I should call the manager who I had the interview with?
Thanks
