Australia or US?

Published

Hello,

I have been a registered nurse for about 4.5years now. I currently work in occupational health in Canada, I started in Cardiac ICU when I first graduated and realized shift work was not for me... the other half of my life is rock climbing, and therefore, I needed to do something that suited my lifestyle.

I have an interest in Primary health car/infectious disease/immunizations, I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on work life in Australia and US... I'm contemplating moving.. but it is a long process to fill out everything, so I want to ensure I pick a good area. Any info would help, Thank you!

Your thread has been moved to our Immigration Advice forum.

Are you a member of any national or international occupational health professional associations? If you are a member do you attend national and/or international conferences? Conferences can provide the opportunity to network with other occupational health professionals and expose you to career paths that you may not have otherwise considered.

I'm a member of a regional occupational health nurses association. Thanks, maybe I'll look into something international.. I have seen some international conferences but they are usually pretty pricey!

I agree that international conferences are pricey, but so is starting your life over in a different country. Consider visiting the US and or Australia before pursuing nursing licensure, speciality certification, immigration and/or a visa. If the international occupational health association hosts conferences all over the world, find out if they will be hosting in the US or Australia in the future. Make plans it to attend the conference and have a vacation at the same time. If prior to attending the conference you have networked with local occ. health nurses they may be willing to show you around and give you tips.
