Attending UCSF NP program and working

Hello,

I was lucky enough to get accepted at UCSF for the AGNP program and I will start this fall. I am excited to be part of a of one of the the best NP schools in the nation. However, I need to continue making a living as an RN . I wanted to know from current students and alumni of UCSF NP programs if working while in the program is doable. I am sure that most of you can relate to my dilemma. I am considering cutting my workload from 40 to 24 hr/wk to accommodate my schooling. I appreciate any input.

A number of nurses who work in the adult ICU's are attending UCSF's AGACNP program for what it's worth.

Thanks Juan for the input.

I am willing to go through extreme sacrifices just to succeed in UCSF. I still feel that the traditional curriculum offered by UCSF works well for me than other purely online-based schools.

Their programs are certainly respected and the university itself has adequate resources for a well-rounded training. FYI, UCSF Medical Center employees who work full time actually receive 2/3 tuition reduction at UCSF.

Hey! I will be attending UCSF this fall as well (in a different NP track). I plan on working part time in an outpatient clinic (a bit more relaxed of an environment than inpatient from my experience) to help keep myself a float while in school. However, school is most important, so I am planning to see how it works first semester and then reevaluate if I can continue working. Best of luck to you!
