Athabasca Post LPN to RN Program

Hello to all,

I am currently an LPN in the Lower mainland of BC. Have been working as an LPN since 2013. Most of my LPN experience is in the Geriatric and Home care area.

I have gone through a majority of the Athabasca LPN to RN threads on the site, but due to the fact that most of the threads are dated back to 2010. I was looking for any further updated information regarding the program and any current or prospective students for AU.

My questions are:

- For the current students, how are you finding the program? any pros or cons to it?

- Does anyone recommend a certain course load amount to take at once?

- How many years before completing the program?

- Is there enough support from the instructors throughout the program?

- Any tips about taking the RN program at Athabasca?

I know these questions may be repetitive, but just looking for some updated answers.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Also, if any of the prospective students would like to connect please feel free to send me a message. :)

    Nothing has changed. Still require an AB practice permit for the duration of the course. Seven years from registration to finish. Still a bit of a backlog for the final placements.

    I work with several people who have done/are doing it. Organization is the key. From what I've seen if you are not self-motivated and enjoy on-line courses, it's not for you. Some people I know have completed all their electives at local colleges and the nursing courses on line.

    So there really aren't a lot of updated answers. The course outline is current and there is no magic secret to how many courses you do at a time. Some have done three and worked part time, others have done five and worked full time. It's knowing your limits what is important.

    Thank you for your help. How did those colleagues of yours find the program? and thank you for the tip regarding taking my electives at my local college and then transfer them over. Is there a website that tells the equivalency of BC colleges/university courses to Athabasca?
