Asking for help for class selection...

Hello everyone!

I am in need of guidance on what other classes to take to look like a good applicant for crna school as well as what might help my background knowledge for crna school. I just took the 3 quarters of general chem, the first physics class in the series, and am now in the first o-chem. I was doing all this to originally get into biochem but due to scheduling issues, I am not sure if I want to take the other 2 ochems. I am gonna start applying this spring for the 2013 start, so any classes I take here on out will be me telling them I am taking them, not completed on my transcript.

So here are my options:

1. take the next two ochems, and then take biochem

2. stop after this ochem, take other classes over the next year like grad level phys or pathophys

3. stop taking ochem and take the two classes that vcu crna program offers for prospective candidates-Foundations for Mammalian Phvsiolopv and Foundations for Medicinal Chemistrv. I am not set on vcu, but I like their program.

any thoughts? other likely classes that might help?

Are you already an RN? A friend of mine is going for her CRNA but she has been an RN for a few years. I'm pretty sure that you need to be an RN for at least 1 year before applying to become a CRNA and then that schooling is about 2 to 3 years.

My advice to you would be to finish up your degree and get a job so you can gain the practical experience you need. If your degree is not going to be a BSN and depending on where you are in your education, you can maybe switch to nursing and follow their curriculum or finish up what you have and apply for a accelerated nursing program.

I would say finish the Organic chemistry class your in. Then take the VCU recommended classes, and finally if you have time then consider taking graduate level physiology.

A full year of organic chemistry should not be necessary. Consider graduate level physiology and pathophysiology.

Agree with the above poster, there is no need to put yourself through a year of organic chemistry.
