Army Nurse

Published

I'm planning on getting my bachelor's in nursing and then join the army to become an active army medical-surgical nurse. I just have a couple of questions to nurse who may have this job:

1.)What is this job like and what do you have to do?

2.)Do army nurses have to fight in the war?

3.)How often do you have to travel?

Specializes in EMT, ER, Homehealth, OR.
i'm planning on getting my bachelor's in nursing and then join the army to become an active army medical-surgical nurse. i just have a couple of questions to nurse who may have this job:

1.)what is this job like and what do you have to do? you will start out on a med-surg floor after going to officer basic. in 1 year you can apply for a speciality school. extra duties which you might have either on your own time or while you are at work is committees, pt etc.

2.)do army nurses have to fight in the war? medical personal are classified as non-combatives by the geneva convention. with that being said you can be sent to a war zone and have to defend your self or your patients. so yes you can become involved in combat.

3.)how often do you have to travel?

varies on what unit you are with and the amount of training they do. you can plan on pcsing(changing duty stations) every 3 years. you can request this to pcs after 2 years and you can also request to stay at your duty station after 3 years. sometimes it might be in the same position or with another unit on the same post.
