Arizona question...

Hey all, I am looking to move to the Phoenix area, I am wondering how the pay is? I live in NYC and the pay is really good, but alas there is a high cost of living. I can buy a house or rent a condo in AZ for way less then here in good ol' NYC. How is the job market for RNs out there? I love being a float nurse, but I would like to settle on one floor. I am still a new nurse, only have been working for 6 months, so I am sure by the time I am ready to move it will be closer to a full year of experience. Hopefully by that time I will have been on ICU/CCU. At my hosp you have to wait for the 9 mo mark to get the EKG/ACLS class for floats. So ofcourse I would love to wait so my job can pay for that! The floors I currently float to are ER, Chemical Detox, Alcohol Rehab, Pysch and Med/Surg. Between all the differentials I get for working 7p-7A and being a float I make around 40/hr. Is the pay equivalant in AZ? Thanx so much in advance for all your advice/info! :nurse:

The market in Phoenix for nurses is very tight right now, even for experienced RNs. I believe there are more nurses per capita in Phoenix than in any other city in the US. Check out this recent thread and good luck in your search!

According to salary.com, the pay range for the Phoenix area for a staff nurse is 50 - 72k per year. I think that's without bonuses or benefits. I don't know how the job market up there is, though..I live in Tucson

With your experience you will not see the kind of money you currently making, I lived out in Phoenix and have over 20 yrs of experience in nursing and wasn't making that kind of money. If you do go out there stay away from Good Samaritan Hospitals, was treated very badly by them, much as they claim they care about their employees, they really don't.

I am sorry to say that you will have a very difficult time finding a job in Phoenix with only one year experience. As far as salary, if you work as pool (with no benefits) you can come close or surpass 40/hr. For staff w one year experience you could come close to 30/hr, provided you can find a job!

Wow, this makes me sick to my stomach. I also was working on my resume today and wanted to start applying all around Pheonix to see what was available. With having just about 6months experinece in psych possiblility of getting job on a medsurg floor looks dismal. I still think I will attempt but am saddened by how the job market looks.... :urgycld:

Oh, definitely try. Your best bet might be to work in psych. Maricopa County Hospital, and Banner Thunderbird are both hiring in psych. They both want a year of experience, but try anyway!
