A friend at work said he was applying to a new program that opened in Arizona. I do not remember the name of the school, however when I looked on the AANA website there is not even a listed school for Arizona. Anyone know anything about a CRNA program there.

Midwestern University in Glendale. I think the first class starts Fall 2004 w/ apps due sometime in March.

Oooof....4 quarters of didactics before you hit any clinicals. Wouldn't work for me. If I don't use it I lose it....pretty quick.

I also noticed the minimum GPA is 2.75 rather than the standard 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Maybe they aren't getting the app's they anticipated?

I think the number of applicants is high. I called and talked to the director of the program and she mentioned that they are giving priority to applicants from Arizona and New Mexico. Therefore, I am not sure what my chances of even getting an interview will be, but I will try anyway. I live in L.A. and with three programs in California and so many applicants in the area the chances of staying in California aren't not that great.

Well so far the program recieved over 600 requests for information and applications. But that doesn't mean that many will apply. The website explains the program very well. It will be very competitive to get in to the program even if they list 2.75 GPA as the minimum. I spoke with the director and she expects a very competitive application process. If you want to apply for their first class then your app needs to be in by March 1st. Should be a great program. I would stay in AZ for the program if it weren't new.

i spoke with the program director and she told me that she will only except applications for Arizona residents.

From their website:

"The Nurse Anesthesia Program has applied for initial accreditation from the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA)."

How hard is it to recieve accreditation? Is there any question as to whether it will be granted? I assume not, or at least no one applying seems to be worried.

I would love to apply for this program when the time comes since it is almost in my backyard, considering I am debating a move across the country. But I am sure (as it already sounds) it will be highly competetive being one of the few programs on this side of the country.

why would she only take Arizona residents. It seems to me that you would want a little more diversity in your program.

Do any of you happen to know when Midwestern will start interviewing for the June 2004 class? I know the app. deadline was March 1st, however some schools interview before the deadline and some after. I'm very motivated to be a part of the inaugural class. Sounds like a great program!

I agree. I would really like to get in as well.
