I was just wondering if there were any IP nurses that are members of this discussion board.

Could you please tell me what an IP nurse is? I'm not familiar with it.
Thanks.

An IP is an independant provider for the Medicaid home care program. You sign up with them as an IP and receive a provider number. Then you can become a self-employed home care nurse. LPN's must have an RN supervisor. Most LPN's either have an RN on the case that does that, or they pay an RN to supervise them. The money is very good, but by being self-emplyed, you have to pay your own taxes, carry your own insurance, etc.
Hope this helps to answer your question NurseDixie. Thanks for the inquiry.
Thanks for the info.

Try the nurse Entrepreneurs (sp?) forum - it is very active.
Thanks! I'll check it out.

Could anyone please tell me how to get my IP number. I've called the medicaid line and all I get is an answering voice mail. I've been in home care for 8 years with 4 of that as a high-skilled RN. I'd like to go back into private duty but as a IP, and making for than only 16.00 per hour...
Thanks... Lois:)

Here is the link on the Medicaid website that has all the IP information:
http://jfs.ohio.gov/ohp/bpo/pnms/providerDocuments/individualPractitioners.stm
There is also an Enrollment application there that you may print out.
Hope this helps.
