Applying in two provinces

Hello, I have just graduated the nursing program in Alberta and am currently applying for a temporary permit as a grad nurse with CARNA. However, I am going to be applying for jobs in both Alberta and in British Columbia. So I was wondering if anyone knew if I had to apply for a temporary grad nurse permit with the regulatory body for nurses in BC as well or if that could hold off until I possibly got a job there as applying for two temporary grad nurse permits can be expensive. Thank you for your input.

I think, and I am sure someone will be along to correct me, but because you have just graduated and waiting to sit exam you must do that first, have a license issued or at least a pass and then apply to another province

Why apply for a temporary new grad permit? It is mid-December and NCLEX testing starts Jan 5th, you may be done the NCLEX by the time a temporary permit is issued.

This conundrum was supposed to have been dealt with under TILMA (Trade, Investment and Labour Mobility Agreement).

RNs from either province can work in the other without having to wait for a practice permit. LPNs from BC working in Alberta have to have pharmacology, physical assessment and infusion therapy modules; they may have a 6-month temporary permit to allow them to meet the requirements. But there's nothing specific to the grad nurse/temporary licensure angle. Since there aren't many jobs going begging in either province right now, it may turn out to be a moot point. Maybe you should call CRNBC and ask someone there how you should handle this.

Unless you have a job offer from BC, you'd be wasting your time and money to start the application process at all. There are few jobs in either Province.

When I was working rural, we hired new grads from BC and ON on conditional offers. They then started the application process for AB.
